Most sellers treat Walmart like a smaller version of Amazon. That’s the fastest way to stay invisible.
Walmart’s algorithm (often called Polaris) ranks products differently. It looks at three things together:
- Content quality (title, attributes, images, description)
- Offer strength (price + shipping speed)
- Seller performance (metrics, fulfillment reliability, customer experience)
Keywords matter — but they are only one part of the ranking equation. A perfectly written listing with slow shipping or uncompetitive pricing will still lose.
Here’s the exact process we use at EcomGlobex to improve organic ranking and sales for our Walmart clients.
1. Fix Listing Quality Score First
Your Listing Quality Score (LQS) is the gatekeeper. Anything under 80–85 makes ranking extremely difficult.
Priority order:
- Fill every required and recommended attribute (this is usually the biggest gap)
- Use 6–8 high-quality images (main image on pure white background)
- Write a clean, readable title (not keyword-stuffed)
- Complete key features and description properly
Aim for 90+ on every important SKU. We already covered the full LQS checklist in our previous post — use that as your base.
2. Write Titles the Walmart Way
Walmart prefers clear, shopper-friendly titles over Amazon-style keyword stuffing.
Recommended structure:
Brand + Product Type + Key Feature/Benefit + Important Spec (size, material, quantity, etc.)
Example:
EcomGlobex Stainless Steel Water Bottle – 32oz Vacuum Insulated, Leak-Proof, BPA-Free
Keep it under 150 characters. Put the most important words early. Avoid promotional language, all-caps, or repeating the same keyword.
3. Attributes Are Ranking Gold
On Walmart, missing attributes can make your product disappear from filtered search results.
Always fill:
- Product Type (critical)
- Brand
- Color, Size, Material, Dimensions
- Any category-specific fields (battery type, wattage, age range, etc.)
Incomplete attributes hurt both LQS and organic discoverability.
4. Price Competitively (This Is Non-Negotiable)
Walmart heavily favors the best overall offer. If your price is significantly higher than other sellers (including shipping), your ranking suffers and you rarely win the Buy Box.
- Stay within 1–3% of the lowest competitive offer when possible
- Factor in shipping cost — customers see the landed price
- Consider using a repricer if you have many SKUs
5. Shipping Speed Matters More Than You Think
Two-day (or faster) delivery gives a clear ranking and Buy Box advantage.
The easiest way to get this is Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS). Sellers who switch key items to WFS often see a noticeable lift in both visibility and conversion rate.
If you stay with seller-fulfilled, make sure your shipping settings and inventory accuracy are excellent.
6. Strong Visuals + Clear Key Features
- Main image: pure white background, high resolution
- 5–7 additional images (lifestyle, detail, infographic, size comparison)
- Key Features: benefit-focused, easy to scan, natural keyword usage
- Description: useful and readable (not just keyword blocks)
Walmart shoppers convert better when they can quickly understand the product.
7. Maintain Seller Performance Metrics
Poor metrics drag ranking down even if the listing looks perfect.
Watch closely:
- Order defect rate
- Late shipment rate
- Cancellation rate
- Valid tracking rate
- Customer review ratings
Keep these in the green zone. Consistent problems here will suppress visibility.
